Tommy Maximoff, the Shatterdome's former rising star, former partner to Silver Witch's Wanda Maximoff, her son and her legacy and the legacy of his uncle Pietro before him. He had failed miserably with every recruit they had thrown at him in that room, and he itches to get back to his jaeger, into Silver Witch where he felt so invincible. They had tried him with his own twin brother, even, and the pain of losing their mother, of her being ripped from the cockpit while Tommy screamed in unison with her, relived through the neural handshake, had been too much strain on them both. A sort of pain like that, it takes time to heal.
Time is the thing they don't have, though.
He shows up in the training room at midnight, in a tanktop and comfortable sweatpants, barefoot on the mats with his white hair tousled from tossing and turning in his bunk. The brass had one more partner to try him with, they said. One more, and if they could sync up, they would fix Silver Witch and let him back onto the field. All he had asked for is no cameras, no onlookers. Compatibility is a personal thing, and he knows what it feels like.
He steps onto the mats quietly, all tall, lithe and relaxed. He's not sure who it is, they've been through so many of his fellow younger Rangers already. Who's even left that he can drift with?
